“With what can we compare the kingdom of God?
It is like a grain of mustard seed...the smallest of all the seeds…
yet when it is sown it grows up… becomes the greatest of all shrubs.”
Mark 4: 30- 32
(from the Gospel for the eleventh Sunday in Ordinary time, Year B)
Dear Parents and Carers
ATHLETICS CARNIVAL POSTPONED DUE UNTIL TUESDAY 15 JUNE at ST PAUL’S OVAL
We had planned to conduct our annual athletics carnival on the oval at school tomorrow. Given the very cold weather and wet condition of the oval, we have decided to postpone the carnival until next Tuesday 15 June. This decision was taken in the interests of the children’s safety and wellbeing. It is simply too cold and the ground too slippery. The weather forecast for tomorrow is for continued cold, rain and wind. When combined with the pre-existing wet, slippery conditions, it makes the athletics carnival potentially unsafe and certainly uncomfortable.
On Tuesday morning, our day will begin with the 800 metre events starting at 9am before marching at around 9:30am. This allows time for the Kinder to Year 2 to get organised before joining us for marching.
Field Events Finals Arrangements for Primary
We have been holding practice and training in the field events with the primary children over the past several weeks. The field events on the day will be the finals. Heats for the field event were held last week with all children participating and having the opportunity to qualify for the finals. The field event heats concluded the teaching and practice program. This approach is necessary because there is simply not enough time on carnival day to conduct field events in accordance with the selection rules for children to qualify for the school team to compete at the Western Region Athletics carnival on Friday 30 July. Hence, the need for a finals only approach on carnival day.
Tabloid rotations for Primary and Infants Classes
We have organised a rotation of tabloid events for children who are not in finals. In this way all children are actively engaged and participating all day as is mandated by the PDHPE syllabus. They will accrue points for their colour houses as part of these activities.
Similarly, the Kinder to Year 2 children have been practicing their rotation of events to be held in the hall and cola. Both the primary tabloid events and the Infants rotations will earn points for the team total for the day.
Community Involvement
We are delighted to be able to welcome parents and the community to join us at the carnival to cheer and encourage the children. We have reinstated our long standing school tradition of team marching. Parents are most welcome to join in by marching at the back of your child’s colour house. We have revisited children who have not been nominated for events on Friday to ensure that no one misses out on participating. We have organised a coffee van for your convenience. I am aware that families may well have made arrangements to attend the carnival tomorrow. I apologise for any inconvenience this necessary postponement may have caused. I sincerely hope you will be able to join us on Tuesday.
End of day pack up - help needed
If you are at school at the end of the carnival, we would greatly appreciate some parents to help pack up the colour house shelters. With enough people it takes about ten minutes to pack up a shelter and return it to the sports shed. Many hands make light work!
Athletics Carnival Award Assembly- Thursday 17 June
We will conduct the award assembly on Thursday 17 June. At this assembly, the children will receive their ribbons, age champions and the winning colour house will be announced.
P&F NEWS
We held our monthly P&F meeting on Tuesday evening. A big thank you to the families who came along to weed and top dress the vegetable gardens, tidy up the chicken coop, weed the driveway garden and organised to have the green waste removed. The school looks much tidier! Thank you!
The P&F are raising money for the painting of playground marking to enhance the grounds for the children. We have sought a quote from EduMarkings, a company that specialises in this type of work. They have contracts with the NSW and Queensland education departments to provide quality, thermoplastic markings that have a ten year warranty. They are very beautiful and striking. The children would love them! Here is a link to the company website where you can view examples of their designs. The P&F goal is to raise around $10,000 this year to go towards these beautiful and useful additions to our school. There are a number of fundraising events planned for the year. The first is the pie drive.
P&F Pie Drive - orders and money by Friday 18 June
Yesterday you received an order form for a pie drive. We thought stocking up the family freezer with pies as the winter closes in would be a good and useful idea. We ask that the order forms and money be returned to school by next Friday 18 June. Delivery of the pies will be on Friday 25 June (last day of Term 2).
TOYS AT SCHOOL
Children do not need to bring toys or balls to school. We provide a range of balls, hoops, skipping ropes, sand pit toys as well as quiet play space toys in the small weather shed. These items are available every day. We also conduct structured play activities at play time.
If your child requires a sensory toy at school, please speak directly to your child’s teacher. The school also provides these options to support children who need them. Speaking to your child’s teacher about your child’s needs is important. Teachers are ready and willing to help. What is best for the children’s learning, wellbeing and development is always our first priority.
KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS FOR 2022 ARE NOW OPEN
If you have a child who is ready for school in 2022 or you know someone who has, our enrolment period is still open. We have had strong demand for places in recent years for the limited spaces we have available. This year is no exception. Applications can be picked up from the school office or downloaded from the school website. The first round offers of enrolment will be made in writing at the end of Term 2.
COVID-19 reminders
The most recent advisory to schools regarding COVID-19 was to maintain existing procedures and remain vigilant. We have been reminding the children of good hygiene practices (wash your hands; cover your cough/sneeze; wash your hands; stay at home if you are sick). We have maintained our regular, daily regime of hand washing and hard surface cleaning.
We are “all in this together” and I thank you for your patience, understanding and cooperation in helping to keep everyone safe.

WINTER UNIFORM
The children look lovely in their winter school uniforms. We will wear the winter uniform throughout Term 2 and Term 3. If children would like to wear a navy beanie, navy gloves or a navy scarf, they are perfectly welcome to do so. We want the children to be warm and comfortable at school during the cold months ahead.

Kindergarten - Wednesday and Friday
Year 1 - Wednesday and Friday
Year 2 - Wednesday and Friday

FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Supporting my child's behaviour at home and school.
It is typical for children’s behaviour to change as they grow and mature. This can result in some challenging behaviours either at home, at school or in both places. At school we follow our PB4L procedures and the consistency of these often supports your child in managing their behaviour. At home it can be difficult to implement consequences if they haven’t been needed before. The Raising Children's Network website provides some great advice on things you can do to support your child's behaviour at home. Maggie Dent also has a great website that also offers great tips on managing behaviour especially for boys. When a child’s behaviour does appear to be difficult to manage a conversation between school and home is the best way forward to ensure consistency in both settings and results in a faster turn around for your child in getting back on track. Teachers are always willing to talk to parents and carers about your children’s behaviours at a mutually convenient time. A change in a child’s behaviour can be an indication that they are trying to tell you something and it is worth investigating what might be going on for them to behave in this way. Take some time to look at the websites. They can both be accessed via the parent portal wellbeing page or these links;

CANTEEN ONLINE SERVICE ON THURSDAYS
Our school canteen service operates on Thursdays each week. The service will be an online ordering service only. Please note that there is no canteen counter service at school.
Orders for the canteen will need to be submitted each Wednesday before Thursday service. Our canteen supplier, Fresh Start Canteens, have moved to an online ordering system called QuickCliq. Your child’s ordered lunch will be delivered to the school in time for first break each Thursday.
If there is a problem with your child’s order please let our canteen supplier Fresh Start Canteens know. They will be only too happy to assist. If a child misses a lunch order, the school will make sure that your child has something to eat! We don’t want any child being hungry or unhappy!
How this new system works:
- Set up your QuickCliq account: you will need to set up a free account for your family with QuickCliq in order to place orders and pay. The instructions for how to set up this account are attached to this newsletter.
- Order and pay for your child’s lunch on Wednesday through QuickCliq.
- Lunch will be delivered to your child in time for the first break on Thursday.
