“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counsellor, to be with you forever”
John 14: 16
(from the Gospel for the solemnity of Pentecost Sunday, Year C)
Dear parents and carers,
COMPASS parent meeting Tuesday 11 June at 6pm in School Hall.
We will be conducting an ICLT parent session on Tuesday evening (11 June) regarding the COMPASS roll out. COMPASS was initially launched in 2017 within the diocese. There were some implementation issues at system level that necessitated putting a hold on the implementation whilst those issues were resolved. The rollout to all schools has re-commenced and is now well established in many schools across the diocese. Our school staff have been using COMPASS for record keeping and internal communication for the past term. Its use has been been both smooth and successful. COMPASS will replace SkoolBag later in the year. Most significantly, COMPASS will be the delivery platform for your child’s reports from here onwards. A feature of COMPASS will be that you will have access to an archive of your child’s previous reports. The school will no longer provide paper copies of the reports. You will of course be able to print your child’s reports should you require a hard copy.
You can download the free COMPASS app from your app store. Search for “Compass School Manager”. It would be helpful to have the app downloaded prior to the meeting.
Semester 1 reports and parent teacher interviews
Children in Years 1 to 6 will receive their Semester 1 reports on Friday 28 June. Kindergarten do not receive a Semester 1 report as per diocesan policy. The Kinder children will, however, receive a brief update report that the school has developed. Kinder parents are invited to attend the parent teacher interviews in Week 10.
In order to access your child’s report, you will need the COMPASS app. This diocesan priority was foreshadowed with you at the end of 2018 when the final paper reports were issued. I strongly urge you to prioritise the COMPASS meeting noted above which we aim to make as practical as possible.
Parent Teacher interviews will be conducted in the last week of Term 2 (commencing Monday 1 July). We urge every family to attend these important meetings.
Kindergarten 2020 enrolment period is now open!
If you have a child who is ready for school in 2020 or you know someone who has, our enrolment period is now open. Applications can be picked up from the school office or downloaded for the school website. Interviews will be conducted during Term 2 and first round offers of enrolment will be made at the end of term.
Reconciliation Week - Sea of Hands and assembly
Last Friday we observed Reconciliation Week with a beautiful assembly. The children created a “sea of hands” to acknowledge the connection Aboriginal people have within our land and the important place they have within the Australian community. Thank you to Miss Malloy who coordinated this event on behalf of the school.
Principal Appraisal - surveys completed by Friday 14 June
I will be undertaking a scheduled review later this term. I would like your feedback on my leadership. The link below will take you to a short survey where you can leave your confidential feedback for the consideration of the review panel.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ParentOBrien2019
Surveys need to be completed before Friday, 14 June 2019. The information you provide will be kept confidential to the Panel that will be undertaking the Appraisal. If you are unable to access the electronic tool, hard copies of the survey will be available from our school’s front office.
The Review Panel will be visiting the school on Thursday, 27 June 2019. The Panel is comprised of an external Educational Consultant, a peer Principal and a CEDoW Leadership member. On this day the Parish Priest, members of Staff, Students and a Parent representative group (approx. 12 parents) will meet with the panel. If you would like to be included in the parent group interview which will be scheduled for approximately 40 minutes, please let the school office know.
Opera Australia visit
On Monday, we had a visit from Opera Australia to the school who performed “By the Light of the Moon”, a retelling of the Owl and the Pussycat, the classic children’s rhyme. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the performance. The children asked marvellous questions of the performers at the end of the show. We thank Mrs Cassidy for her organisation of this culturally enriching event.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
We have begun the Premier’s Reading Challenge in Term 2. Children have been given a reading log to record the books they have read. Please encourage your child to read and complete their logs.
PARENTS and FRIENDS NEWS
P&F Meeting
Our next P&F meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 11 June. Everyone is welcome.
Help needed!
One of the roles within the P&F is the Diocesan Delegate. This position is now vacant. What the Diocesan Delegate position essentially entails is liaison with the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) and the school’s P&F. It requires attendance, along with the Principal, at the monthly PPC meetings as well as at the monthly P&F meeting. Both meeting occur in the second week of each month on a Thursday and Tuesday respectively. Each meeting takes about one hour. This is a very important role in linking with our wider parish community. If you are interested in this position or know someone who would potentially be interested, please let me know.
Please continue to pray for the children who are preparing to make their First Holy Communion. There is no class this Sunday due to the long weekend. Lesson 4 will commence on 16th June. Families are required to attend the 10:00am Mass at St Paul’s followed by the class in the school hall. During this class we will need to confirm the number of families who are attending each mass, either the 10:00am or the 11:30am mass on the 23rd of June.
Classes: 16th June (No classes on the Queen’s long weekend – 9th June)
- First Holy Communion: Sunday 23rd June
Pentecost Liturgy
On Tuesday the 11th June, there will be a whole school liturgy to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. This will commence at 10:30 and will be held in St Paul’s church. Students will be involved in different roles during the liturgy, particularly with reading. All are welcome to attend.
Thank you

Due to the inclement weather conditions the shire has received, we have had to make the decision to place a caution status on the sports fields in our shire. Please refer to the website to check your fields status.
The grounds crew will re-assess the situation on Friday, June 6, where each Sports Field will be assessed individually.
When Council has deemed the grounds open with Caution/Restrictions, Council requires Clubs or Schools (including referees and/or coaches) to make their own assessment as to the suitability of the grounds prior to their use, please consider the following:
- The potential for injury to players.
- The sport played and the potential for damage to the playing surface.
- The weather.
- The condition of the ground when inspected.
If the grounds are assessed as unsuitable for the intended use - they must not be used and their condition reported to Council.
You can refer to Councils Website for any updates at the link below.
