Dear Families,
I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend and feel refreshed for the final weeks of term! We have some exciting events coming up as we approach the end of term, with our St Paul’s Feast Day being a key highlight.
St Paul's Feast Day Celebrations
On Friday, June 27th, we'll come together as a whole school for a special Mass and activities to celebrate our Feast Day. It's a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our school's values and community spirit.
During the Mass, we're thrilled to present our very first St Paul’s Respect Awards. These awards will acknowledge one student from each grade who consistently shows respect towards themselves and others. A dedicated awards committee has worked hard to develop these awards, and we're so excited to recognise these deserving students. Later in the year, we'll also be presenting Mary MacKillop Determination and St Dominic Kindness awards during our respect celebration days.
In the afternoon, we warmly invite all parents and carers to a Christian Meditation session led by Robyn Gallagher CEDoW and Bernadette Taylor. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about Christian Meditation and experience it firsthand. If you're able to join us, please complete the RSVP form so we can arrange afternoon tea and prepare handouts for everyone. We'd love to see you there!
God Bless,
Katie Browne
Principal

School Uniform Update
Last week, Lowes officially took over our uniform contract. They are currently sorting through the stock collected from Whytes, and once everything is tagged and on the shelves, the online store will be ready for you to access. We know this transition has had a few bumps, but we believe that once everything is in place, it will be a smooth and cost-effective system for all our families.
You'll notice some slight changes as the current stock sells out and new items arrive:
- The Summer short-sleeve shirt will now feature a navy blue line across the pocket and sleeves, with the logo on the pocket.
- The Winter long-sleeve shirt will have the logo on the pocket and a line across the top of the pocket.
- All socks for both girls and boys, to be worn with summer and winter uniforms, will now be navy. This means no more white socks for girls with summer dresses or grey socks for boys with shorts – this change helps us simplify our uniform options. Sports socks will remain white.
While these transitions take place we understand students may be in varying uniforms. Once the store is up and running and families have had time to purchase uniform items we will return to full uniform expectations. Students in year 6 will not be expected to update their socks at this point in time. From 2026 all students will be required to wear navy socks.

Parent Forum Update
A huge thank you to all the parents who attended our recent Parent Forum! It was a truly valuable evening, and I'm so grateful to both our parents and staff for their participation. On the night, I shared the feedback from last year's forum and provided an update on our progress in implementing suggestions or continuing with existing successful initiatives. Here are some of the key points we discussed:
- From this year, all children will complete one formal public speaking assessment tailored to their age and stage. Year 5 and 6 students will use Diocesan set topics, with two students elected to attend the Diocesan Public Speaking Competition.
- Beginning this year, all children will complete a cross-curricular Creative Arts and Religion task that unpacks scripture and allows students to interpret it through art and writing. Year 5 and 6 will continue this as part of their Advent and Christmas Religion Units, and three students from each grade will be chosen to enter their works into the Diocesan competition.
- Every second year, Stage 3 students will enter Wakakirri as part of their stage excursion, incorporating creative arts and English. In the alternate year, they will visit Canberra.
- From this year, each class will take turns leading prayer at assembly and sharing what they are learning.
- The Book Parade will now be held during Book Week, and the Book Fair will take place in Term 4 around Grandparents' Day.
- We've developed a parent sporting committee to help support the organisation and communication around school sporting events.
- We've successfully partnered with CatholicCare to provide families with access to counselling and workshops on supporting children with emotions and wellbeing.
- The P&F held their first after-school event for adults, a trivia night, which was a huge success!
- Harmony Day is now a permanent fixture on our school calendar and our fourth key celebration, aligned with the value of Community.
- We'll be offering opportunities for groups to attend Soccer Gala Days.
- We joined the Council Christmas Carols at the end of last year and hope to continue this tradition.
We also shared the work we've done on developing our respect rubrics and Amy Berry's work on student engagement. We'll be sharing a Google Form in the coming weeks to gather feedback from families who weren't able to attend the forum.

Assistant Principal Appraisal
Simon Farrugia will be undergoing his appraisal for his first contract as Assistant Principal. We encourage you to take a few moments to complete the survey and provide feedback for Simon. This feedback is invaluable as it helps shape the goals for his next contract term. It's a truly affirming process that allows leaders to focus on their strengths and identify areas for growth. Survey to come soon.

What to Do When Your Child Comes Home Upset
It's not unusual for children to come home from school feeling upset. They might report being physically hurt, left out of a game, or simply frustrated by something that happened. The most important first step is to validate their feelings. What they are feeling is very real to them.
Once you've acknowledged their feelings, gently inquire (don't interrogate) into why they're feeling this way. Ask open-ended questions about what they've told you. For example, if they say they were "punched," you could ask: "Can you tell me what that looked like? When did it happen? What game were you playing? Who did you tell?"
We recently had an example where a child said they were "punched in the head." Upon inquiry, it turned out they were playing a chasing game and as one student tried to take another's hat, their hand accidentally hit the child's head. While not exactly accurate, it was still upsetting for the child!
If they say they were left out of a game, find out if they asked to join, what happened, who they spoke to, and most importantly, what they plan to do about it the next day. As parents, we naturally want to make our children feel better, but sometimes we need to step back and allow them to solve their own problems. This teaches them invaluable independence and resilience.
If your child comes home upset, encourage them to brainstorm some solutions for how they can handle it the next day, and then check in with them to see how it went. It's also absolutely fine to email their teacher to let them know something has occurred. Teachers can't see everything, so a little heads-up is always appreciated, and it allows us to support your child in resolving any issues they might be having.

St Paul’s Feast Day
A number of activities will be taking place on Friday of Week 9 (27th June) to celebrate Saint Paul’s Feast Day. In the morning session, students will complete some letter writing activities, as Saint Paul is famous for his letters. They will also complete some craft activities related to Saint Paul.
There will be a whole school Mass at 12:00 midday in the school hall. During this Mass, we will be presenting a new award, the Saint Paul Respect Award. This will be presented to one student per class, to students who consistently show respect in all areas.
The Mass will be followed by a picnic lunch (weather permitting). Please bring some picnic food and a blanket/chair to share with your family. In the afternoon session, parents/visitors are invited to participate in a Christian Meditation session in the library, run by Robyn Gallagher. There is an RSVP for this.
Parents and visitors are warmly invited to attend the Mass, picnic lunch and meditation session.
Please note that there will be an opportunity for open classrooms at the Saint Mary MacKillop Feast Day celebrations in early Term 3.
Year 6 Bishop Mass
Students in Year 6 will attend Mass with the Bishop on Tuesday 29th July at St Thomas Aquinas in Bowral. Students will travel by bus.
Religious Literacy Assessment
The Religious Literacy Assessment program in the Diocese of Wollongong provides information about the way children process and express their religious knowledge. A standardised assessment is administered to all Year 4 student across the diocese. It focuses on the students' knowledge and understanding of the key concepts that are taught throughout their Religious Education from Kindergarten to Year 4, and what this means for the way we live, as it is applied in society.
The data gathered from the assessment is analysed to inform learning and teaching in schools, to focus on professional learning and to recognise and celebrate learning in the domain of Religious Education in the Wollongong Diocese.
Students in Year 4 will sit the Religious Literacy Assessment on Monday 4th August. This test will be online, so students will use their iPad to complete the test.
Thank you

Panadol and Nurofen at school
Nurofen and panadol are not to be brought to school unless a consent to dispense medication form has been completed and signed by a Medical Practitioner (pharmacist, doctor, dentist etc). Students are not permitted to self administer this.
Uniform Items
The school sells sun hats ($16), School Bags ($65) and the girls winter skirt ($70). These are available to purchase from the school office and payment is by cash or eftpos.
Volunteers
If you volunteer at the school, parents or carers need to do an induction by scanning the QR code in the document:
Contact details
It is important that your contact details are up to date. It would be appreciated if you could log onto the Compass Parent Portal and check that your mobile/telephone number and email address are correct.
If you find that they are incorrect, you may update them in the portal.
Please also check that your email address is reachable, we sometimes find that we receive ‘bounce backs’ due full inboxes.
School Fees
School fee statements have been issued. Payment of fees is by BPay, Compass Portal or at the office. Fees can be paid by instalments – weekly, fortnightly, termly or via a lump sum. The necessary form would need to be completed ASAP and returned to the school office.
From the commencement of the 2025 school year, the management of certain aspects relating to school fee accounts in Primary Schools has been transferred to the School Fees Liaison Office at the Catholic Education in Wollongong.
What does this mean for families:
- Your school’s administration office is your first place for enquiry regarding school fees. School staff will provide information regarding instalments, methods of payment, giving access to an Application for Fee Concession and attend to other general enquiries.
- If you are experiencing financial difficulty or need to make an arrangement for payment of your school fee account, please email sflo@dow.catholic.edu.au with your name and the school in which your children are enrolled. The School Fees Liaison Office will then contact you directly to offer assistance.
- Please note that each school has a dedicated School Fees Liaison Officer to provide a personalised service to individual families. This Officer will also have a close relationship with your school.
If you require further information about this initiative, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Injuries
If you child sustains an injury outside of school eg broken arm / leg and they have a cast/sling etc the office must be informed and a letter from the Doctor / ED report must be given to the office so that a risk assessment and care plan can be done for the student.
Only medication that is prescribed by a doctor is permitted to be dispensed at School upon completion of a “Consent to Dispense Medication” form which is available from the office. The form and the medication are to be given to the office staff in the original packaging with the student’s name and dosage. We are not permitted to administer Panadol unless prescribed by a doctor and the necessary form completed. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
If your child is Asthmatic or Anaphylactic please ensure the necessary plan has been forwarded to the office along with any medication so that it can be processed. We also need a "Consent to Dispense Medication" form to be completed.

Catholic Care Families and Communities Program
Dear Families,
Catholic Care has been consulting with us in order to provide services for families in the Southern Highlands. Currently services are provided in the Illawarra and Macarthur area and families from the Southern Highlands can attend although this is not ideal, hence the reason we have been consulting to bring the service to the Southern Highlands.
Catholic Care surveyed families and found parents are seeking additional support in how to help their children manage their mental health and wellbeing. As a result they have put together some group sessions to provide support for families.
Groups will be available in the St Paul’s School Hall from Term 2 and Catholic Care will also be available to support families with counselling services at a location to be determined. Bookings must be made directly with Catholic Care. Please see the flyer for further information on how to do this.
This is a great opportunity for families and we encourage you to consider how it can be of support for you.
Thank you.
The latest book club catalogue has been sent out.
If you would like to place an order, please do so via the LOOP app by Friday 20th June.
