From the Principal - Mrs Katie Browne
Dear Families,
This term staff and students have worked extremely hard in growing their faith, learning and wellbeing. Staff have begun the process of learning about engagement and what it actually is and will spend time on the first day back next term diving in deeper to fully understand what true engagement in learning looks, sounds and feels like. Our goal this year is: “Through high expectations and targeted feedback our students will be engaged in their learning.” We are on our way in deepening our understanding with this.
In order to achieve this we are unpacking the CEDoW Faith, Learning and Wellbeing Framework. This framework provides researched strategies that have the highest levels of impact in student learning and wellbeing. We have spent time looking at the High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS) and how these inform our practice. It is our intention that we will hold a parent forum in Week Five Wednesday 28 May 6:30 pm to unpack this framework with families. Save the date so you can come and be a part of the journey.
As the term draws to a close I would like to sincerely wish you all a holy and safe Easter Holiday period. At the start of the year I spoke about the Jubilee Year. This is a prayer especially for the Jubilee and encourages us to be Pilgrims of Hope.
Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us in your Son, Jesus Christ, our brother, and the flame of charity enkindled in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, reawaken in us the blessed hope for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel. May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos in the sure expectation of a new heaven and a new earth, when, with the powers of evil vanquished, your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope, a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth. To you, our God, eternally blessed, be glory and praise forever.
Amen.
God Bless,
Katie Browne
Principal
Parent and Friends
The P&F have had a huge term and have raised just over $10000 between the Trivia Night, Easter Raffle and Bulbs. We also had a number of parents and staff volunteer their time on the weekend to be on the gates at Brigadoon which was a huge success and a beautiful day out. Thank you to all our families who have contributed in some way whether it be through attending events, helping to organise, providing easter eggs or purchasing tickets. Your support is greatly appreciated.
We are waiting patiently for the building project to begin. Until this does we will need to wait on some decisions about where the funds go until we know the impact of the building on the playgrounds. We will also be looking to purchase an electronic sign for the front of the school. Thank you to our volunteers who have worked extremely hard to build our welcoming and inclusive community.
Building Update
During the holidays three demountable classrooms will be arriving. During term two, three classes will relocate into these demountable classrooms in preparation for the building project. This project is long overdue and we are almost there. I would like to thank the community for your patience in what has been a longer than usual process and has been out of the hands of the properties team who have been consistently trying to speed things up to no avail. It is hopeful that we will have a formal announcement after the holiday period with specific dates and timelines.
Catholic Care counselling and groups.
Catholic Care has been consulting with us in order to provide services for families in the Southern Highlands. Currently services are provided in the Illawarra and Macarthur area and families from the Southern Highlands can attend although this is not ideal, hence the reason we have been consulting to bring the service to the Southern Highlands.
Catholic Care surveyed families and found parents are seeking additional support in how to help their children manage their mental health and wellbeing. As a result they have put together some group sessions to provide support for families. Groups will be available in the St Paul’s School Hall from Term 2 and Catholic Care will also be available to support families with counselling services at a location to be determined. Bookings must be made directly with Catholic Care. Please see the flyer for further information on how to do this. This is a great opportunity for families and we encourage you to consider how it can be of support for you.
Attendance
Regular school attendance is important for faith, learning and wellbeing growth. CEDoW launched an updated attendance policy this year and there are new procedures in managing attendance. Parents are discouraged from taking their children on holidays during school time. Any time away that equals five or more days must have the following form completed.
https://forms.dow.catholic.edu.au/to/yVv9DA.
When you go to add the absence into compass if your dates are five or more days then you will be automatically redirected to complete this form.
Should you have any issues please contact the school office.
Student Update Reports / Parent Teacher Interviews
Children have brought home an update report either today or yesterday. Please check your children’s bags if you have not seen it. This week there are parent teacher interviews. If you haven't made a booking and would like to see the class teacher please contact the office.
Year 1 update reports and parent teacher interviews will be held early next term.

Contact details
It is important that your contact details are up to date. It would be appreciated if you could log onto the Compass Parent Portal and check that your mobile/telephone number and email address are correct.
If you find that they are incorrect, you may update them in the portal.
Please also check that your email address is reachable, we sometimes find that we receive ‘bounce backs’ due full inboxes.
School Fees
School fee statements have been issued. Payment of fees is by BPay, Compass Portal or at the office. Fees can be paid by instalments – weekly, fortnightly, termly or via a lump sum. The necessary form would need to be completed ASAP and returned to the school office.
From the commencement of the 2025 school year, the management of certain aspects relating to school fee accounts in Primary Schools has been transferred to the School Fees Liaison Office at the Catholic Education in Wollongong.
What does this mean for families:
- Your school’s administration office is your first place for enquiry regarding school fees. School staff will provide information regarding instalments, methods of payment, giving access to an Application for Fee Concession and attend to other general enquiries.
- If you are experiencing financial difficulty or need to make an arrangement for payment of your school fee account, please email sflo@dow.catholic.edu.au with your name and the school in which your children are enrolled. The School Fees Liaison Office will then contact you directly to offer assistance.
- Please note that each school has a dedicated School Fees Liaison Officer to provide a personalised service to individual families. This Officer will also have a close relationship with your school.
If you require further information about this initiative, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Injuries
If you child sustains an injury outside of school eg broken arm / leg and they have a cast/sling etc the office must be informed and a letter from the Doctor / ED report must be given to the office so that a risk assessment and care plan can be done for the student.
Only medication that is prescribed by a doctor is permitted to be dispensed at School upon completion of a “Consent to Dispense Medication” form which is available from the office. The form and the medication are to be given to the office staff in the original packaging with the student’s name and dosage. We are not permitted to administer Panadol unless prescribed by a doctor and the necessary form completed. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
If your child is Asthmatic or Anaphylactic please ensure the necessary plan has been forwarded to the office along with any medication so that it can be processed. We also need a "Consent to Dispense Medication" form to be completed.

With the Federal Election being held in May it is important that families are informed prior to voting. Please see the attached flyer from the National Catholic Education Commission (NCEC). Further information for parents is available on the website here.
May is National Family Reading Month
NATIONAL FAMILY READING MONTH is an initiative that represents the heart of our business— literacy being the key to learning and achievement. We believe that all children, with the help of their families and reading role models, can benefit from a lifelong love of reading.
This year marks the 29th Scholastic’s National Family Reading Month (NFRM), which encourages families to read together on a regular basis to create strong reading habits. Most of us know how important reading together is and its long-term value to our children’s success in school and in life. However, we also know it is not always that easy to put into practice with our busy schedules and increasing competition with screen time.
That is why we ask you to take the 31-Day Challenge— to inspire you to make reading together for at least 10 minutes every day a focus, to create positive, long-lasting reading habits and lifelong readers!
NFRM will launch on, THURSDAY 1ST OF MAY 2025, AT 11AM AEST AND 1PM NZST where it will be livestreamed all across Australia and New Zealand via Facebook and YouTube. Mr Luke will read his book Guess What We Are Doing Today? together with illustrator Chris Kennett and kick off the 31-Day Challenge, as we
READ EVERY DAY! READ MORE IN MAY!
You are invited to go to our website to download more assets and join the 31-Day Reading Challenge with us. Visit scholastic.com.au/
Let’s encourage the 31-Day Reading Challenge and celebrate National Family Reading Month together!
