From the Principal - Mrs Katie Browne
Dear Families,
Next week is a big week of celebrations. This is the third of three feast day celebrations that we have throughout the year to acknowledge our school’s history in order to ensure we stay focused on who we are going forward. The Dominican sisters started the school on its current site. They were active in the school until 1988.
The hallmark of Dominican Charism (spirituality) is preaching, a point that is made obvious to us in the fact that St Dominic founded the Order of Preachers (OP). St Dominic oriented everything he did toward authentically imitating Christ. He knew in his own age, which was wrought with heresy, that only a well-educated person who lives humbly, charitably, and uprightly could best transmit the life of Christ to the world. Therefore, his placement of prayer first in his life, his poverty and austerity, his insistence on study and thorough education, his emphasis on community life and charity all have a purpose: everything that a Dominican does must prepare his soul for preaching well, the truth of Christ to the world.
(Taken from https://www.opeast.org.au/explore-our-charism/charism/)
As a community we have named “Kindness” as a value we align with St Dominic because he chose to show charity and humility towards others. It fits well that we also value “Community and Spirituality”. The Dominican live in community and value spirituality. Both values are enhanced by our participation in learning about our Dominican history and coming together to celebrate mass and morning tea together with our grandparents who inspire us.
This week we have the following events taking place. Please note the days and times.
Wednesday 6 November 9:30 am Book Parade on the court area.
Wednesday 6 November 6:30 pm Parent Listening Forum in the hall, adults only.
Thursday 7 November Dominican Family Day
- 9:30 am Grandparents Day Mass followed by fortnightly assembly awards.
- 10:30 am Picnic and book fair
- 11:30 am Marching followed by age races - 100m.
- 2:00 pm Catholic Care will be hosting an information meeting for families on supporting yourself and your children.
Friday 8 November Crazy Sock Day Year 6 fundraiser. Gold coin donation.
This will be our final feast day celebration for the year until the last week where we will celebrate the end of the year. We look forward to seeing you next week to celebrate with us.
God Bless,

Children are invited to dress as a character from a book or according to the theme of Book Week “Reading is Magic”.
Children can wear their costumes to school and then remove items that are large and uncomfortable to go out to play. Children must wear closed in shoes and have hats for playtime. All accessories such as wands, swords etc., will not be allowed to go out to the playground during playtime. Children who do not wish to particpate can wear their sports uniforms.
Parent Listening Forum Wednesday 6 November 6:30pm
This is an opportunity to hear about the recommendations from the cyclic inquiry and the School Strategic Improvement Plan. The evening will begin with drinks and nibbles. At 7pm we will begin the presentation and activities and be finished by 8:30 pm at the very latest. This is an important opportunity for families to be able to hear about and contribute to the direction of the school community. If you are able to attend then you must RSVP via this google form.
Dominican Family Day Thursday 7 November
This is our Grandparents day which aligns with Dominican Family Day. The day begins with mass in the school hall at 9:30 am. We will hand out the fortnightly assembly awards following the mass and there will be no assembly in the afternoon.
Following the awards we will have an extended break where families can picnic together in the grounds. During this time the book fair will be open in the hall. Families are asked to stagger their attendance at the book fair in order to allow staff time to process orders.
At 11:30 am the students will line up in their colour house to march up onto the oval for the age races. Children will need to wear their sports uniforms so they can participate in the age races, 100 metres.
At 2 pm there will be a presentation from Catholic Care in the School Hall on managing big emotions in children. All parents and grandparents are invited to attend.
Crazy Sock Day Friday 8 November
Children may wear crazy socks for a $2 gold coin donation. These funds will go towards helping Year 6 raise funds to purchase an end of year gift for the school. Children can wear the crazy socks with whatever uniform they normally wear on a Friday.
"Important, your input urgently needed" - Catholic Care Survey, final chance to complete it.
Catholic Care needs your feedback to help shape support services for families in the area. A big thank you to families who have already responded to this survey, we value your feedback.
Please take a few minutes to complete this survey. Moss Vale and the greater Southern Highlands lacks services that support families. This survey could help to improve this.

St Paul's Gardening Group would like to say a HUGE thank you to all the families who supported the Gardening Group's garden sale. The total amount made so far is $86.00, which is amazing! The group will discuss what the money will be used for and will let everyone know.
Also, a BIG thank you to Mrs Despotovic for donating a huge array of plants for the garden patch. You can see the enormity of the offering in the photo. The students had a very busy lunch break planting out the seedlings. It looks like an exciting time ahead with gardening group.
Lastly, the Seasons for Growth program has finished for the year. The children enjoyed a celebration together with some invited guests. I would like to congratulate all the students who journeyed through the Seasons this year, it was an honour to share your experience with you.
