Bishop Peter Ingham 1941 - 1924
Dear Families,
Welcome to Term 2. I hope the holidays were a chance to reconnect with each other.
Last week we were informed of the passing of Bishop Peter Ingham. Bishop Peter was the fourth Bishop of Wollongong and a loyal servant. He visited Moss Vale on many occasions. Attached is the media release detailing his life history.
Staff came together yesterday to focus on our improvement goal: Students will demonstrate growth in mathematics through engagement that is informed by quality assessment and responsive pedagogies. The day was full of hands-on activities that were practical for staff and the engagement and energy of staff was wonderful. This work was centred around place value and the skills that need to be embedded across each year level for the students to make progress. In the coming weeks we will share some of the activities you can play with your children at home to support this work. Playing board games such as snakes and ladders is a great way to reinforce counting and being able to say what number comes next or what number came before. These might seem like simple concepts yet they are vital to a student’s mathematical understanding. Staff will continue to engage in this work through the term.
Thank you to our families that supported the ANZAC march and ceremony. I was fortunate, for the first time, to attend the march in Canberra on ANZAC Parade leading up to the War Memorial. It was moving to see so many groups represented ranging from on the ground soldiers to nursing units and administration positions. There were some people there as special guests aged between 97 to 104 who joined the Second World War, some as young as 16 and 17 at the time. We are truly grateful for all the men and women who have served and are currently serving to ensure our country's freedom.
Have a great term,
Thank you and God Bless,
Tell Them From Me
Last year we undertook the Tell Them From Me survey for the first time. This is an annual survey that all schools in our diocese are participating in. In the coming weeks we will be inviting students, teachers and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Paul’s Moss Vale.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Please keep a look out for the survey link in the coming weeks.
Parent Teacher Interviews
This year we have moved them forward to the beginning of Term 2. This is so you can touch base with your child’s teacher and check in with their progress prior to the report coming home. The end of semester reports will be available at the end of this term. Should you require another interview following these reports you are welcome to book in. Meeting with your child’s teacher is key in ensuring the best possible outcome for your child’s growth in faith, learning and wellbeing.
Kindergarten 2025 Enrolment interviews
Interviews are taking place this week. If you know of anyone who has not yet enrolled their child for 2025 then please encourage them to go to the online application form.
Parent Forum - Think u Know Social Media and your Children and SCAM Awareness by BDCU
On Wednesday 12 June at 6pm we will be holding a parent forum with two sessions. The first session will be presented by Senior Constable Rachel Kennedy on social media and how parents can support their children in this space. The 1 hour session will cover: what young people see, say and do online, the challenges they may face and how to report and get help if things go wrong. This will be an adult only forum as it will touch on sensitive topics
The second session is on SCAM Awareness and is being hosted by BDCU. It will touch on how to spot a SCAM and what to do if you get scammed. Please mark this date in your diary now as this is a must attend event.
Walk to School Day May 10
WSTSD is a Nationally participated day, aimed at schools and has health, road awareness and pollution reduction at its heart.
In more detail the main objectives of Walk to School Safely Day are:
- To encourage parents and carers to walk to school with primary school age children and reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour.
- To promote the health benefits of walking and help create regular walking habits at an early age.
- To ensure that children up to 10 years old hold an adult's hand when crossing the road.
- To help children develop the vital road-crossing skills they will need as they become mature pedestrians.
- To reduce the car dependency habits that are being created at an early age and which will be difficult to change as children become adults.
- To promote the use of Public Transport.
- To reduce the level of air pollution created by motor vehicles.
- To reduce the level of traffic congestion.
From the Assistant Principal - Mr Simon Farrugia
Basketball Clinics
Students from Years 3-6 will participate in Basketball clinics during Term 2. These clinics will be conducted on Fridays from Weeks 1-5 of this term and are run by qualified coaches at the basketball stadium in Moss Vale. Students will walk with their class, teacher and one other staff member to and from the stadium for these clinics.
There is no cost to these clinics as the school has successfully gained a Sporting Schools Grant. All students need parental permission to attend and this is done via the Compass App.
Thank you,
The dental checks will not take place until the end of September.
We we have a company called Lunch Bunch Canteens who will be fulfilling our lunch orders each Tuesday and Thursday.
Please find the menu below and how to order details.
