“When you give a feast,
invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind,
and you will be blessed,
because they cannot repay you.”
Luke 14:13- 14
(from the Gospel for the twenty second Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C)
Dear Parents and Carers,
This weekend we celebrate Fathers’ Day where we pay extra attention to the fathers and father figures in our lives. It is a time to acknowledge the joys and challenges of fatherhood and give thanks for the gift of a loving heavenly Father. Jesus referred to God as “father” and “abba”, literally translated as “dad” or even “daddy”. Such was the sense of intimacy Jesus felt with our Creator God.
Sunday’s Gospel encourages us to be humble, to be of service to those around us based on their needs and not on what they can do for us in return. The true measure of service and humility is rendering this courtesy to those who can not repay us, do us any good or offer us any advantage. Fatherhood and motherhood are very much like this. We love and care for our children because they need us to love and care for them. This is the sacredness and ministry of parenthood. Let’s celebrate the father’s in our lives on Sunday. Happy Father’s Day!
Father’s Day Stall tomorrow (Friday 30 August): the annual P&F Fathers’ Day stall will be held tomorrow. All gifts are $5 each. All money raised will go towards providing for additional resources for the children to use in their learning. Thank you to the P&F for coordinating this event on behalf of our community.
Another Wakakirri story to enjoy!

In recognition of the many hours of hard work including playtime given up by the children to prepare for Wakakirri, we will provide the Wakakirri children with a pizza party lunch tomorrow. The school will happily meet the cost for this celebration.
