From the Principal - Mrs Katie Browne
Remember whom you are trying to follow.
Mary MacKillop
Dear Families,
Welcome to Term 2. I hope that the Easter weekend provided your family with the opportunity to be together and be renewed by the Risen Lord.
This term is a solid term. As a school we will begin preparing for our School Cyclic Inquiry. School Cycic Inquiry - SCI is a process by which we reflect on where we have come from and then reflect on where we are going. This process will enable us to form our School Strategic Plan for the next four years. From this plan we will then form our Annual Improvement Plan each year.
In the coming weeks a survey will be shared with the community seeking feedback that will be used to support this process. I ask that you take time to complete the survey and provide your genuine feedback in the interests of supporting our overall school improvement. As staff work through the cyclic inquiry we will continue to update you with our progress. Much of this term will be spending time understanding what the cyclic inquiry process is about, gathering data and evidence and beginning to shape and form some ideas for future directions. In term 3 we will generate a presentation for the School Cyclic Inquiry panel from the work we have done in Term 2. The panel will be at school Thursday 7 September and Thursday 14 September. This is an exciting time for our school community as it will reinforce what is going well and provide us with clear direction moving forward.
Bearers of Christ’s Love - Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Wollongong.
This document was released just prior to the school holidays. In it, Bishop Brian explores the purpose of Catholic schools as an expression of the Church experience, as well as the vital connection between schools, parents/carers, parishes, and the diocese itself. I encourage you to take a look and be familiar with it.
Thank you and God Bless,
Winter Uniform
With the colder weather upon us it is now time for the students to wear their winter uniforms. Terms 2 and 3. The weather can turn cold quickly so please ensure your child has adequate layers of clothing. It is essential that all items of clothing are labelled with your child’s name. It is an expectation that all students wear the correct uniform including the correct shoes. Please see our website for the uniform list.
THANK YOU
I would like to thank all our volunteers who helped at Brigadoon and especially to our P&F executive committee for organising the volunteers. This is a major fundraiser for our school community and the funds raised from this event will go towards resourcing our STEM project that students engage in on their library day.
ANZAC Day
Thank you to our staff and families who attend the ANZAC Day march and service. Your support in representing our school and participating in such an important event for our community is greatly appreciated. Past student Sarah Bull gave the student address and her words were indeed thought provoking and reflective.
Student Update Reports
These were sent home with your children on the last day of last term. If you did not receive one please contact the office. These reports are a check in to let you know how your child is progressing. The semester 1 reports will be sent home at the end of this term and we will hold parent teacher interviews in Week 10. If you would like to see your teacher earlier than this please make an appointment through the office.
Staff Development Day
On Monday staff gathered to participate in professional learning in Mathematics. This day was a follow on from the professional learning that staff participated in last term with Professor Peter Sullivan on the Launch Explore Summarise and Review model. During this term staff will be implementing new ideas and practices into their maths lessons and undertaking some challenging tasks with the students. These tasks are designed to provide productive struggle in the students. This means they are encouraged to make multiple attempts at problem solving in order to deepen their understanding and creativity. On the Staff development Day staff engaged in their own productive struggle and will continue to develop this over the course of the year. We would like to acknowledge and thank Mark Boss - CEDoW Education Officer for working with Mary Lou Claremont in leading the staff through this key focus which forms part of our current Annual Improvement Plan. We will be holding a second follow up Staff Development Day on Tuesday 13 June following the long weekend.
School Photos
School photos will take place on Monday 1 May. Students must wear their full Winter uniform including a tie. Hair is to be tidy with the correct colour hair ties.

Sport News
Good luck to those students who will be taking part in the Diocesan Cross Country at Nowra on 2nd May. The top three students from each age division (9’s-12’s) will compete against students from all other Wollongong Diocese Catholic Primary Schools. The course is quite challenging but we know your effort and pride will get you through.
All the best of luck to Sam Blunt (Yr 6) who will be taking part in the Wollongong Dio rugby trials on Friday 28th April. Sam will be competing for a spot in the Diocesan Rugby team against students from other schools.
Ribbons and medals from our school cross country will be handed out at Assembly on 4th May. The assembly will begin at 2:15pm and all are welcome to attend.

Kindergarten Enrolments are open for 2024
If you have a child who is ready for school in 2024 or you know someone who has, our enrolment period is open. We have had strong demand for places in recent years for the limited spaces we have available. Applications can be picked up from the school office or downloaded from the school website. The first round of interviews will be conducted in Term 2. The first round offers of enrolment will be made at the end of Term 2.
Medication
Only medication that is prescribed by a doctor is permitted to be dispensed at School upon completion of a “Consent to Dispense Medication” form which is available from the office. The form and the medication are to be given to the office staff in the original packaging with the student’s name and dosage. We are not permitted to administer Panadol unless prescribed by a doctor and the necessary form completed. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
If your child is Asthmatic or Anaphylactic please ensure the necessary plan has been forwarded to the office along with any medication so that it can be processed. We also need a "Consent to Dispense Medication" form to be completed.
Payment of School fees

Injuries
If a student has sustained an injury please inform the school office as we have to do a care plan and risk assessment. Please also forward any ED report or doctor letter as well.
Leave for students
If a student is going on leave for 10 days or more, parents will need to apply in writing and in advance for this leave.
