“He went on His way through towns and villages, teaching and journeying towards Jerusalem.”
Luke 13: 22
(from the Gospel for the twenty first Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C)
Dear Parents and Carers,
Yesterday, we farewelled Mrs Rachel Neville in a beautiful funeral service at St Paul’s Camden. Rachel was much loved and this was reflected in the large gathering for her funeral. She was committed into God’s eternal care by her family, her wide circle of friends, colleagues from the two schools at which she worked as well as staff and community from two other schools attended by her children.
Thank you to the many kind expressions of condolences we have received at the school. The majority of our staff attended the funeral. The children had a somewhat unusual day yesterday with six of the seven classes being taught by our regular casual teachers. Our school’s normal systems and processes remained in place. Consequently, the children had a good day.
Diocesan Athletics carnival was held on Tuesday at Beaton Park, Gwynneville. Congratulations to all our representatives who qualified to represent the Western Region team at the diocesan carnival. Special mention needs to be made of Lilli Ragan and Jessica Wray both in Year 6 who have qualified for the MacKillop Team. Lilli qualified after finishing first in discus and shot put, setting new records in both these events. Jess came second in the high jump, thus qualifying for the next representative level. The MacKillop team is drawn from the dioceses of Canberra / Goulburn, Parramatta, Sydney, Wagga Wagga as well as Wollongong. The other diocesan Catholic team is Polding, being drawn from Armidale, Bathurst, Broken Bay, Lismore, Maitland/Newcastle and the Wilcannia/Forbes Dioceses.

Term three is always a wonderful celebration of Australian children’s literature. This term children will be looking at many of the shortlisted books as part of library lessons. The theme for Book Week 2019 was ‘Reading is my Secret Power’ and reading does indeed give us secret powers: the power to walk in the shoes of others through their stories; the power to escape into other worlds; the power to improve vocabulary and imagination…the list goes on. We would like to finish Term 3 with a celebration. On the last day of Term we will hold a book parade. So you may like to start thinking of a costume …..what secret power does reading give you? During Week 10 there will also be Book Hoopla at break time…..bring a gold coin and toss it to try to win a pre-loved book. We will also have a book raffle.
