From the Principal - Mrs Katie Browne
“They all ate and were filled.”
Luke 9:17
The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Corpus Christi.
Dear Families,
This Sunday is the Feast of Corpus Christi. This feast day celebrates the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. A fitting feast Day for the children who are making their First Holy Communion. We pray for them as they make this most holy sacrament and wish them well as they continue their journey as young people in the Catholic Church.
Reports

“Schools may select the outcomes and content that will form the basis of the educational program for Kindergarten to Year 10 students. The educational program does not need to address all outcomes or all content of the syllabuses.”
The reason for this statement is due to the high number of absences as a result of COVID and therefore the inability for teachers to be able to adequately ensure all content and assessments can be completed in a reasonable time.
When reporting teachers are required to make consistent on-balance judgements using evidence from a range of formal and informal assessment experiences in the determination of grades using the Common Grade Scale. If you would like further information about reporting you can read the CEDoW policy from this link here.
The common grade scale provides a level of achievement from A - E based on the students performance in the stage at which they are working. Generally Kindergarten are working at Early Stage 1, Year 1 and 2 are working at Stage 1, Year 3 and 4 are working at Stage 2 and Year 5 and 6 are working at Stage 3. If your child is not working at the same stage as their peers we have already had a conversation with you about this and you will have signed a form that indicates the stage your child is working at in some or all of the key learning areas. This means when you see your child’s report they will have been graded according to the stage they are working at. If you would like to read more about the common grade scale you can access information via this link.
Part of the report comments on your child’s effort and their commitment to their learning. All areas have a description in the report to assist you with what the different levels are. The parents teacher interviews will be held in week 10. This is a great opportunity to go through the report with your child’s teacher and discuss your child’s next steps as learners.
Kindergarten children do not receive a graded report this semester. You will receive an update report and are encouraged to book a parent teacher interview to discuss how your child has settled into Kindergarten.
Social and Emotional Learning Focus
Starting on Friday we will be sending you home via Compass a brief overview of the SEL focus for the week. This is the focus that the children have been learning about during the week. We are sending it home to you so we can support you in having a conversation about this focus with the children. As you can see in the graph the best outcomes are when home and school work in partnership. Social and emotional learning skills are life skills that require practice and opportunity for growth. As a staff we have been focusing on our own SEL skills so we can better teach the children what the different competencies mean. There are five competencies that make up the framework and all need to work together. If you would like further information about SEL skills you can go to the CASEL website.

Tennis
During these last few weeks of term the children are participating in Tennis lessons. These are being funded through the Sporting School Grants. We have applied for further funding for Term 3 with the hope of being able to hold basketball lessons for Years 3 - 6.
Recording of Absences on Compass
Last week a letter was sent out via compass explaining a change to how absences will be recorded on compass. The notable change is that parents/carers must provide a reason for the absence within seven days. After seven days it will automatically change to unjustified in compass and parents /carers will not be able to change it through the app. You will need to contact the school inorder to be able to change the reason from unjustified.
God Bless,
From the Assistant Principal - Mr Simon Farrugia
The report period can be an anxious time for your child and also as a parent. A lot of information is embedded within these reports and it is often important to unpack your child’s learning and academic development with their teacher.
Teachers will be making themselves available for these meetings during Week 10 of this term (Monday 27th June - Friday 1st July). Bookings will be made via Compass and these slots, along with a notification, will be made available later this week.
PB4L
Over the past two weeks, we have been focusing on dismissal procedures. The children line up together at the end of the day and a teacher now dismisses them using the microphone. As part of this dismissal, we are asking students to focus on positive aspects of their day to talk with you about at home and the packing of their bag prior to lining up.
