“You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”
Mark 12:31
(From the Gospel of the 31st Sunday in Ordinary time, Year B)
Dear Families,

In a time when we are all experiencing loss and grief it can be hard to reach out to others however expressing gratitude can be one of the most amazing things we can do to help ourselves heal. When we show our gratitude for others then we are truly revealing God’s love. This Friday we celebrate World Teachers day. Our teachers have been faced with many challenges, especially this year. They are wives, husbands, partners, daughters, sons, parents, carers and individual people with human spirits. They face the same challenges that we all face and they give of themselves daily to your beautiful children who sit in front of them whether it is in the classroom or on zoom. If you have a spare moment please take the time to let them know they are appreciated and why.
I would like to thank our teachers for the way in which they greeted the children on Monday with their return to school. The red carpet and VIP lanyards were a big hit and the children felt very special. It was wonderful to see the children’s faces as they reconnected with friends.
Our focus this week is on student's well being and returning to our routines. Reestablishing routines will help and assist in children recovering from the impact of remote learning and dealing with feelings of loss. If at any time you are concerned about your child’s well being please do not hesitate to speak to their teacher.
God Bless,
Katie Browne
Acting Principal

Lost Property
As we returned to school this week, it was time to bring out our lost property basket. It is full of well-loved and near-new jumpers and jackets, lunch boxes, and drink bottles. The clothing range from size 4 to 14. Please check your child’s cupboards and school bag if they are missing anything. These items will be available for collection by your child outside the Library windows on the bottom playground, until this Friday 29th October.
Please ensure your child’s name is on their property for easy return if misplaced.
World Teachers Day Friday 29 October 2021
Australia will celebrate and thank the teaching profession on World Teachers’ Day Friday 29 October 2021.
Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities.
To celebrate our teachers, we ask you to send a message of gratitude via the school info@spmvdow.catholic.edu.au.
These affirmations and messages of gratitude will be displayed for our teachers to see and feel the love of the school community.
Thank you in advance for your assistance
Dulcie Ryman
Acting Assistant Principal

Crazy Hat Day – Tuesday 2nd November

We are delighted to have everyone back at school from next week. As a way of celebrating, we will be having a crazy hat day on Tuesday 2nd of November. Students and teachers are invited to wear a crazy hat or headpiece. It could be a hat you have at home, something borrowed, or you could even use your creative ideas to make your own crazy hat. There are some great ideas online. The purpose of this day is to have fun, so no monetary donations are necessary.
Thank you
Catherine du Bois
Religious Education Coordinator
THANK YOU MR CASSIDY
A huge thank you to Mr Cassidy for the maintenance work that he has kindly undertaken around the school in the past few weeks. The crocodile is now mounted on the wall for the children to enjoy.

iPADS ON LOAN TO BE RETURNED - ASAP
All students who received iPads, modems or charging cords on loan from the school during remote learning must be returned as soon as possible as students are now using them in the classroom. Please return them to the school office so that they can be signed off and reassigned back to the school. If you need assistance, please speak to Mrs Norman.
SCHOOL PHOTO DAY Tuesday 23 November 2021
The School Photo Day has been moved to Tuesday 23 November. If you have already returned your form in Term 1, the school office will still have these forms and payments so you don't need to do anything. For those of you that haven't returned your form, please send in your order envelope to your child’s class teacher. There is an individual order form as well as a sibling order form. These have been sent out via the Compass Alert. Unfortunately, photos will not be processed and sent to the school by the end of this year, so they will be distributed in 2022. Full Summer Uniform is to be worn on the day.
PAYMENT OF SCHOOL FEES BY INSTALMENT
EXISTING FAMILIES IN OUR SCHOOL WITH INSTALMENTS
If you are currently paying by instalments there is no need to complete another Request to Pay by Instalment as your request carries over from year to year unless you wish to amend the frequency of your payments eg weeky to fortnightly, etc.
EXISTING FAMILIES IN OUR SCHOOL WITHOUT INSTALMENTS
If you would like to pay school fees by instalments in 2022 and have previously not taken up this option for payment, please complete a Request to Pay by Instalment Form which is available on the school’s website or from the school’s administration office. On completion of the request either email it to instalments@dow.catholic.edu.au or submit at the school office. Following receipt of the request, instalments will be generated on your school fee account during the process of invoicing 2022 school fees. Your school fee statement will provide a list of scheduled payments and their due date depending on the frequency you have chosen eg weekly, fortnightly, monthly, etc.
